Nitschke Mounds Park in Burnett, Wisconsin

Nitschke Mounds Park is located approximately 45 minutes northwest of Milwaukee, near the southern end of the Horicon Marsh. The property has 37 preserved animal-shaped effigies as well as conical and linear mounds and is considered a sacred space for Native Americans.  The preserved mounds represent one of the best-surviving examples of the Mound Builders culture that once occupied the area.  There are walking trails that go around the effigies and through a wooded area by a pond. There is also a natural spring at the park that fills the pond but it is not set up to be potable.
